WHO IS TEACHING YOUR CHILD?: CMS employee accused of sending sexual messages to 12 year-old student
A staff member at John Motley Morehead Academy in northeast Charlotte was suspended from her job with pay on Monday. CMS officials told Channel 9 she works for an after-school program at the school on Neal Road. CMS said the suspension is over an alleged incident involving a student.
That seventh-grade student’s mother spoke exclusively to Channel 9, but did not want to be identified. She said she found out what was going on because she kept her 12-year-old son’s cellphone on Friday when he went to school, as punishment.
While she had the phone, she received a text message meant for him.

“CMS has confirmed the name of the suspended school staff member, but Channel 9 has decided not to release it at this time.”
An investigation into a serious assault in Manchester ended with the arrest of a teacher and her husband, who are accused of running a drug factory.
Police arrested Kirsten Dergosits and her husband, Robert Dergosits, on April 23.
Officials with Manchester Public Schools confirmed to Eyewitness News that Kirsten Dergosits was a teacher at Robertson Elementary School.
A former teacher in the Gettysburg Area School District has been arrested on allegations he sexually abused an 11-year-old boy, and police say there may be other victims who have not yet come forward.
Robert C. Bonebrake Jr., 67, of Chambersburg, was charged Tuesday with counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault and endangering the welfare of children, state police said in a news release.
Bonebrake is accused of sexually abusing the boy between November 2001 and December 2013, according to the news release.
HOUSTON, Texas (WRIC) — A middle school teacher is facing a felony charge, after she allegedly gave a student a lap dance for his birthday. Police near Houston, Texas, say 42-year-old Felicia Smith gave the boy a “full-contact lap dance” that lasted about four minutes.
According to police, the incident occurred at Stovall Middle School on February 26. At the end of the lap dance, Smith reportedly hugged the student and said “I love you, baby. Happy birthday.”
LAMAR, SC –The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office has charged a middle school social studies teacher with assault and battery third degree, deputies say. The arrest is the result of an incident that occurred April 25 with a student at Spaulding Middle School in Lamar. Hazel Earle Ellerbe, Jr, age 52, of Florence, who has been teaching for 18 years in Darlington County, was charged in the incident, Sheriff J. Wayne Byrd said in a press release Wednesday evening.
The student reported the incident to the school administrator and the school administrator immediately notified law enforcement on the April 25, Byrd said. Ellerbe, who teaches 7th and 8th grade social studies, was placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation. The incident apparently involved a 14-year-old boy student who Ellerbe had asked to leave his classroom, deputies said in a report.
LAS CRUCES >> A former Centennial High School teacher suspected of having inappropriate sexual contact with a student has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies – the third such arrest in Las Cruces Public Schools in a little over a year.
Phillip Hernandez, 25, of the 700 block of Homestead Circle, is charged with three counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, all fourth-degree felonies, according to a Las Cruces Police Department news release. Hernandez was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
On April 16, a 17-year-old Centennial student told school administrators and a school resource officer that Hernandez, the boy’s theater teacher, had allegedly touched him inappropriately on multiple occasions.
DOVER, Del. (CBS) – A Dover middle school English teacher is charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old male student. Stephanie Seabury, 22, turned herself into police on Monday. She taught English at Fred Fifer III Middle School in Camden, Kent County.
“We were able to find out that the teacher as well as the student were exchanging explicit text messages, as well as photographs, between each other throughout the month of February,” Corporal Mark Hoffman of the Dover Police Department said.
Police say beginning in February Seabury had sex with the student on more than one occasion at her home.
TAMPA — A Blake High School teacher was arrested at his home earlier this month on drug possession charges, according to Hillsborough County jail records. Domenic Stango Jr. was arrested by the Tampa Police Department and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to jail records. Stango, 37, of Tampa, was arrested on April 19. He was released the next day after posting bail set at $4,500, according to jail records.
KATY, TX (KTRK) — A note went out to parents and staff in the Katy ISD after a teacher was reportedly caught on a school campus engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student Sunday night.
It was inside a portable classroom at Katy Junior High that district officials say they made the disturbing discovery of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student. Heather Miller, 46, a seventh grade Texas History teacher, was immediately arrested after a Katy ISD police officer reportedly discovered her with the 14-year-old.
GLEN DALE, W.Va. — A Marshall County teacher has been arrested after he allegedly tried to kiss a student and pursue a relationship. David Duane Will, Jr., 32, was arraigned Tuesday and released on his own recognizance, charged with one misdemeanor count of battery. According to a criminal complaint, Will allegedly told the teenager she was beautiful, he missed her and repeatedly tried to contact her through social media before he attacked her on April 9.
A Scott County High School teacher has been arrested on sex-related charges involving a student at the high school.
Georgetown Police Capt. Robert Swanigan said Elizabeth Alexander was arrested about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at police headquarters. Alexander was taken to the Scott County Detention Center, but she had been released by Tuesday evening. She is charged with first-degree sexual abuse and use of a minor younger than 16 in a sexual performance.
Alexander is a social studies teacher at the school, according to a staff directory on the Scott County Public Schools website. Alexander told police she and a 15-year-old boy kissed and groped each other, and Alexander asked him to text her a photo of his private parts, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner, WKYT-TV reported.
