The hacker illegally accessed Bernstein’s Verizon account and browsed through the journalist’s correspondence, which included bank and stock portfolio balances and e-mail exchanges with director Steven Soderbergh.

To memorialize the break-in, “Guccifer” made screen grabs from inside Bernstein’s account and sent them to TSG and several other news outlets. The screen grabs only show correspondence from 2009 and 2010, so it is unclear whether Bernstein, 69, still uses the Verizon account.

The key stat in all of them is the independents — overwhelming disapproval.  This matches up with Rasmussen’s latest poll.

The public is catching up with the news cycle by reading more things online; these polls are only going to get worse for the White House.

The audience erupted today after Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) went off on IRS official Lois Lerner today. Lerner, the director of the IRS division that singled out hundreds of conservative groups, delivered an opening statement today on how proud she was of her work and then pleaded the Fifth Amendment and clammed up. Gowdy didn’t like this much.
“Mr. Issa, Mr. Cummings said we should run this like a courtroom and I agree with him. She just testified. She just waved her Fifth Amendment rights. You don’t get to tell your side of the story and then not be subjected to cross examination. That’s not the way it works. She waved her right to Fifth Amendment privilege by issuing an opening statement. She ought to stand here and answer our questions. (Applause)”

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama’s job performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) now disapprove.

Today’s figures include 24% who Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing as president and 41% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -17 (see trends). This is the worst approval index since September 26, 2012.

This is the second day in a row – but only the fourth day in the past six months – that Strong Disapproval of the president has reached 40%. The other two days were May 2 and 3.

Eighty-one percent (81%) of Democrats approve of the job the president is doing, while 87% of Republicans disapprove. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 38% approve, 61% disapprove.

WASHINGTON — A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the 5th Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups.

Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening — or why she didn’t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

Everyone else, including Obama, has played dumb and spit out ‘I don’t know’s’ like they get commission on saying it. Sounds like Lois knows a few things and isn’t a good liar.

The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including “patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12″ in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards.

But was all of this done at the hands of a small group of Cincinnati employees working together?  During Friday’s congressional hearing, that appeared to be the theme.  Now, that explanation just became less likely.

It turns out Cindy Thomas’ name is one we have heard before.  The independent journalism group ProPublica says in November of 2012 they had requested information on conservatives groups that had received non-profit status.  Along with that information, the IRS released private information on nine conservative groups that had not yet been approved and personal information had not been redacted.  The person who signed off on that release, Cindy Thomas.

Everyone above this woman has resigned, retired or taken the 5th.

Personnel rules for most civilian government workers allow for “indefinite suspensions” in cases “when the agency has reasonable cause to believe that the employee has committed a crime for which a sentence of imprisonment may be imposed.”

Meanwhile, more than three years later soldiers wounded in the mass shooting are fighting to receive the same pay and medical benefits given to those wounded in combat.
